Which LRN2RD / Basic Handling Skills course is best for me?

OK, so you have decided you want to get a Motorcycle Licence. You have made an excellent choice:

- Motorcycling is a very enjoyable sport with different options
- Are you / will you be a Cruiser, Sport or Trail Rider?
- You will meet all sorts of people from different backgrounds
- Motorcycles have a smaller footprint than the average family car
- You are helping to reduce traffic congestion
- You have come to the Learner experts!

Everyone has different needs and backgrounds.  For this reason, we have designed three different Basic Handling Skill (BHS) package deals to suit most of our students.

If you feel you may need more time for training, please inquire as we can make up a package to suit everyone.

    > The Full Monty

Don't panic, its got nothing to do with the movie.........

This is our most popular course for those with minimal or no previous experience

   > Basic Handling Skills Test

The Basic Handling Skills Test Course

You are required to Start,Turn and Stop
the Motorcycle as well as complete
other tasks to pass the test.

Have a look at our video to give you
an idea of what is involved. (It is harder
 than we make it look)

You must complete this test as well as
complete the theory to attain a NZ
 Learners Motorcycle Licence.

This is a straight off BHS test.  No Training is involved.

Recommended for only those who have studied up on the test or who are being re-tested.

For those who already can ride a 2-Wheeled Manual Motorcycle without assistance.

The BHS test was changed back in November 2012 to this new type, it is no longer the cone weave, slow ride etc. It is more technical and involves the use of 3 circles (acts as roundabouts) and you are required to perform 4 different stages.  You are judged on these areas:

Looking
Signals
Headchecks
Lateral Positioning
Control
Speed
Parking Observations
Parking Movement

There is more information on the BHS test on our Getting a Motorcycle Licence page.

We will talk you through the test requirements and give you a 5 min warm up to get familiar with our bike.

It is YOUR responsibility to study up on the criteria and be familiar on what is acceptable riding behavior for the BHS test.

If you are not sure then the Refresher Package would be the better option.

                             BHS test alone costs $100
                                and takes approx 1/2hr.
Motorcycle, Helmet and Gloves are included in this price

  6-speed manual.

Same engine as the Yahama XT250 Serow and related to the Yamaha Scorpio 225

These bikes has a real low seat height and excellent low speed maneuverability - The best bike out there for learning and sitting the BHS on!  We have had little ladies right up to some pretty tall gents and all have been able to ride it with ease.

This model of motorcycle was actually designed for stunt riding, hence the height of the seat and its light weight.  It is also great offroad ;) The ultimate urban assault machine!

We also have a GN125 available for the shorter /
smaller person.

Popular Motorcycle for the ladies due to its placid nature.
